About ten years ago the first cat cafes began popping up in Tokyo and since, the concept has spread to countries world wide including England, Australia, Canada, Taiwan and recently, the United States with the first locations opening in Oakland, Portland, and New York City. When it came time to start planning Philadelphia's first cat cafe, it only seemed appropriate that the kitty cafe pay tribute to the roots of the concept and honor the Japanese "Kawaii" culture that started it all.
